Feb 7th - Microchip Clinic, Feb 11 at Global Pet Foods Charlottetown

The PEI Humane Society has partnered with Global Pet Foods Charlottetown located at 405 University Avenue, to hold its next low-cost microchip clinic on Saturday, February 11, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

“Cat, dog and rabbit owners from across the Island are encouraged to attend this life saving clinic” explains John Benedik, Acting Shelter Manager. “Microchip pet ID is a form of permanent identification that gives lost pets a better chance of being reunited with their owners. It’s quick and practically painless. The microchip is slightly bigger than a grain of rice and is injected just below the pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. Read full press release.

Jan 20th – The PEI Humane Society hosts Rick Mercer

Rick Mercer holds Peanut and Kit-Kat

The PEI Humane Society was host to Canadian personality Rick Mercer and the Rick Mercer Report team on Monday, January 16th to record a segment for the popular CBC show which will air on CBC Tuesday, January 24 at 8:00pm and Friday, January 27 at 8:30pm.

“I had a great day at the PEI Humane Society” explained Mercer. “I learned about the importance of spaying and neutering, microchip pet ID, and the critical need for a lint brush if you plan on spending 12 hours in an animal shelter.” Read the full press release

Jan 13th, 2012 – PEI Humane Society partners with Charlottetown Wal-Mart

Charlottetown Wal-Mart located at 80 Buchanan Drive, will be accepting donations as a part of the PEI Humane Society’s “Open Your Heart” annual fundraising campaign.

“We’re thrilled to establish this partnership with Charlottetown Wal-Mart” explains PEI Humane Society Development Coordinator Lisa Hashie. “Starting Friday, January 13 to Thursday, February 16, when Charlottetown Wal-Mart customers pay for their purchases, they will have an opportunity to open their hearts and make a $1.00 donation to the PEI Humane Society. 100% of the donations made at Charlottetown Wal-Mart will be used to continue its important programs and services that help companion animals in communities across PEI.” Read full press release

Dec 5th – Joy Tremblay announced as the recipient for the 2011 Dr. Els Animal Champion Award

Joy Tremblay was given the award for the work, effort, and commitment she puts into Spay Aid PEI each day and to honour everything she’s done to help PEI’s stray and feral cat population” says Lisa Hashie PEI Humane Society Development Coordinator. “Mrs. Tremblay was one of the lead volunteers that started Spay Aid PEI and is still very much involved with the day-to-day operations of the organization.”  Read full press release

Oct 26 PEI Humane Society receives funding from SkillsPEI Work Experience Program for important exterior renovations

The PEI Humane Society has started a much-needed exterior renovation project at its Shelter at 309 Sherwood Road, with the help of workers funded by the SkillsPEI Work Experience Program.

This 13-week project will provide hands-on training for four Carpenter’s Assistants who, under the direction of a Construction Supervisor, will complete tasks such as removing and replacing old and damaged wood siding and windows at the 20-year-old building as well as replacing damaged fascia, soffit and eaves troughs. Who’s Your Hero? Call for Nominations for the Dr. Els Animal Champion Award Extended to Oct. 31

The Dr. Els Animal Champion Award was established in 2009 to pay tribute to the contributions and dedication shown by Dr. Els Cawthorn towards PEI’s companion animals and the PEI Humane Society. Dr. Els Cawthorn was the Shelter Manager and Veterinarian at the PEI Humane Society from 2004-2009, prior to relocating to her former home in the Netherlands.
